From the earliest days, seeking safe shelter has been one of human kind's most important preoccupation second only to the quest for food. From the prehistoric caves, the Mesopotamian clay houses, the castles in the Middle Ages, and to the modern-era skyscrapers, houses has undergone a long and colourful evolution.

The roof... that top portion of a house that protects its occupants from the elements, has evolved in its own way path as well. Below, we try to capture some of the more distinct stages in the evolution of roofs...
